I bought a 1995 Range Rover about 6 months back. The vehicle only had 72k miles on it, and was in great shape. The only catch was the air suspension system on the vehicle was shot, they told me the reason they were selling it was because the cost of repair was to much. My neighbor had some Hummer H2 air suspension problems before, and they were quite costly. But I knew there had to be some other way to fix this problem. And the rest of the vehicle was in great shape, and ran wonderfully. So I set out to find a cheaper fix.

I went home and started searching land rover range rover forums and blogs. I found out that the factory air suspension was going to definitely cost a lot to fix, but I also learned of another solution called a coil spring conversion kit. What you do is remove your air springs and install coil springs in their place. Coil springs are probably the most common and reliable forms of suspension on the road today. The Coil Spring Conversion Kit sounded like a great idea to me. I called a friend of mine who is a mechanic, and asked him what he thought. He said he thought it was a great idea, and would definitely be a lot cheaper and more reliable fix.

So now I knew what I needed, I just had to figure out were to get it. I couldn’t really find any reasonably priced air suspension kits locally. So I searched the web, for sites that sell this kind of stuff. I found the cheapest one for my vehicle at Strut Masters.

After installing the kit in just a couple hours, my Range Rover was back on the road. The air suspension conversion was the perfect fix.

But just because the lights dont flash and stay on, doesn’t mean that your air suspension system in your Land Rover is alright. If your lights are flashing you should take your Range Rover to your mechanic and have the trouble codes read. The code will give you an idea of what the problem might be. If it is a serious air system problem that could be unsafe, the vehicle will lower itself to its bump stops by deflating the airbags, the range rover will remain this way until the problem is fixed, and the code is cleared. For instance the range rover air suspension compressor might fail. This could potentially be costly.

If you feel that you are having an air suspension problem, but your air suspension control lights are not on, you still might have a problem. As sometimes the fuse that controls the suspension control lights will burn out. 

So now that you know you have a suspension problem, time to fix it. But before you fix the suspension system there are a few things you should know. If you are working under the vehicle, you should hit the switch under the driver seat, that will turn off the air suspension system, so it will not try to adjust the system while your jacking it up. The battery is only necessary to disconnect if you are messing with the sensors or another electrical component. This might happen to your range rover air suspension. Inactive parts tend to do this.

Commonly the electrical connections between leveling senors will go bad, and will throw a trouble code. The connections will need to be cleaned and sealed to be fixed. Sometimes the leveling sensors will cause some trouble, if this happens you will need to take it to the land rover dealer so they can level it with a diagnostic software, and clear the code. 

There is one alternative to all these air suspension problems. It is an easy, cheap, and fool proof system. It is a conversion kit that will convert your air suspension system to a coil spring system. This will eliminate all air bag, compressor, sensor, and other air suspension problems.
